EDUSENTRO | Demand for Cambridge International Education Surges in Southeast Asia and Pacific as 2025 Results Go Live
CAMBRIDGE, England — International education is becoming one of the most sought-after pathways for families across Southeast Asia and the Pacific (SEAP), as more students look to prepare for a future defined by global mobility, rapid technological change, and complex world challenges. This growing demand was highlighted today as Cambridge International Education released the results of its June 2025 exam series to more than 680,000 students worldwide — a 9% increase over last year.
Across the SEAP region, over 165,000 entries were made for Cambridge qualifications this June, reflecting a nearly 4% rise compared to 2024. Countries leading the surge include:
- Malaysia: 70,500+ entries (+2%)
- Indonesia: 33,000+ entries (+6%)
- Vietnam: 15,500+ entries (+4%)
- Thailand: 18,500+ entries (+7%)
The broader trend reflects not only the academic quality of Cambridge’s globally recognised qualifications but also a shift in parental priorities toward preparing children for a borderless future — one where adaptability, cultural awareness, and critical thinking are as important as academic excellence.
Opening Doors to Global Opportunities
One of the most significant outcomes of the June 2025 series is the release of Cambridge International AS & A Level results to nearly 16,000 students in the SEAP region. These results will pave the way for university placements worldwide. According to a Cambridge survey of 2024 graduates, 89% of Cambridge International AS & A Level students progressed directly to university, with almost half staying in their home countries and 42% studying overseas.

Cambridge will issue additional results on 19 August for over 30,000 SEAP students sitting Cambridge IGCSE and O Level exams, the world’s most popular international qualifications for learners aged 14 to 16.
A Shift Toward Future-Ready Skills
While core subjects like English, mathematics, and science remain the most in-demand across the Cambridge curriculum, one subject stands out for its remarkable growth: Cambridge International AS & A Level Global Perspectives, which saw entries jump by 17% this year.
The course trains students to tackle pressing global challenges, conduct independent research, and present evidence-based arguments — skills increasingly sought by universities and employers alike.
“As AI reshapes the workplace and climate challenges demand global cooperation, schools need subjects that prepare students to think critically, ethically, and collaboratively,” said Kanjna Paranthaman, Cambridge’s Regional Director for SEAP. “Global Perspectives perfectly embodies the mindset and skills today’s learners must develop.”
This emphasis on adaptability and cross-cultural understanding mirrors wider trends in education across Asia, where international qualifications are being used as passports to global opportunities and as training grounds for leadership in innovation-driven economies.
A Global Growth Story
The SEAP region is part of a larger wave of internationalisation in education. Worldwide, the number of schools offering Cambridge qualifications has grown 38% in the past five years, while exam entries have surged by 74%.
This June alone, 5,507 schools across 149 countries made entries for Cambridge assessments, from primary-level Cambridge Checkpoint exams to post-16 qualifications such as the International A Level and the International Project Qualification. Cambridge’s reputation for academic rigor and holistic preparation has made it the largest provider of international education for 14- to 16-year-olds globally.
With 160 years of experience in assessment and a reach of nearly two million students annually, Cambridge continues to be a trusted partner for schools navigating the balance between local education needs and global readiness.
